Monsters
WHEN: Thu 13 – Sat 15 Feb 2025
WHERE: National Centre for Circus Arts
The National Centre for Circus Arts presents its BA2 students’ ensemble production Monsters, directed by Michaela O’Connor. As a theatre teacher, performer and Co Artistic Director of the performance company Kook Ensemble, Michaela’s practice seeks to drive the possibilities of interdisciplinary practice within performance arts.
Through the research of the human condition as individuals and as communities, Monsters proposes its own perspective of the notion of what makes a monster and how can we re-frame this binary representation giving it context beyond the negative.
Join us to experience this exciting collaboration between Michaela and our talented BA2 students.
Recommended for ages 11+
From the Director
Monsters was inspired by how circus bodies can completely transform to make a character, tell a story or create an atmosphere.
What if we interrogate the “Monsters” that were misjudged or misrepresented by history. Through the lens of a Monster, we can delight in speaking our truth, standing up for what we believe in and throw away the shackles of what society deems appropriate.
Here we explore notions of equality, empowerment and what makes us human.
